Title printed in red and black with engraved vignette. Engraved headpiece to dedication and initial, wood-engraved tailpiece, mezzotint allegorical frontispiece bound after text and before the 60 mezzotint portraits. (Very light spotting and browning, plates 10 and 11 misbound.) Recent maroon half morocco over marbled paper-covered boards, top edge gilt. Provenance: EZ (initials in ink in an early hand on title).

Johann Caspar Füssli (1706-1782), the Zurich artist, drew copies of the portraits, and then sent them to his former pupil Walch who, together with the Nuremberg engraver V.D.
