CHURCHILL, Winston S. Autograph letter signed ('W.') to his brother Jack ('My dear'), Admiralty, Whitehall, 21 November 1914, a bracing denial that he had influenced his brother's transfer [from the Front] to French's staff to train the Territorials, sympathising with his emotions ('a pang with a twinge of reproach in it') on leaving his regiment in the front line, 'But you are not in command & they will get on all right'. Churchill describes his own situation as 'cat & mouse watching and I must take care not to be the mouse!', and reassures his brother that the prospect of a 'long and cruel' war will offer 'plenty of chances of being shot at' before it is all over, 3 pages, 8vo; envelope.
