"As an art student in the early sixties, I was very moved by Gavin Maxwell,s book, Ring of Bright Water. Having read it again, I find it still holds the same magic. The story tells of his life with two otters, and nowhere has love for nature been more lyrically expressed. Otters are some of the most charming and playful of animals. I tried to capture their character in this sculpture of a pair of otters playing together under water. Their supple bodies lend themselves to the swirling, circular composition which is the essence of Ring of Bright Water."
