Lot Essay

The rococo gallery, the panelled frieze and panelled rear supports, and the turning and reeding of the front legs follow Gillows' designs of the 1830s and 40s. The grooves around the screws fixing the drawer bottom to the rear lining are also characteristic of the firm.
