ATTRIBUTED TO THE QUADRATE PAINTER, CIRCA 430 B.C.
With a woman seated on the steps of a stele attended by two standing women, the seated woman, perhaps the deceased, facing right, a dark himation around her waist and legs, gesturing with her left hand raised before her, her right extending forward, holding one end of a string tied to an alabastron, the attendant before her holding the other end in her right hand, the attendant wearing a peplos, a large footed chest in her left hand ornamented with a band of meander, with dark ribbons draped over the top, the attendant to the left wearing a dark himation, leaning on a staff, the stele topped with a band of ovolo, its upper edge and steps strewn with dark ribbons, a wreath at the upper left corner, a ribbon behind the head of the left attendant; a band of stopt meander and checkered squares above, palmettes and tendrils on the shoulders, a band of ovolo above
