APULIA, CIRCA LATE 4TH-EARLY 3RD CENTURY B.C.
The large spherical body on a flat base, with a wide strap handle, one side with a flaring cylindrical spout above a molded appliqué Medusa head with a round face, her hair a mass of snaky locks, a similar appliqué at the base of the handle, two horse protomes emerging from the vessel shoulders on either side of the spout, arranged antithetically, depicted rearing, their forelegs extended, preserving traces of pigment over extensive white slip throughout
