A CANOSAN POTTERY FUNNEL OLPE
APULIA, CIRCA LATE 4TH-EARLY 3RD CENTURY B.C.
The large ovoid body on a flat base, with a wide strap handle and a broad flaring funnel mouth, a mold-made facing head of Io applied to the body opposite the handle, with leaves for the wreath in her hair, upturned horns, jewels and snaky volutes framing her neck, two smaller heads at the sides, with wings in the hair, each with a flat platform above the head centered by a circular perforation, another perforation at the apex of the handle, two horse head protomes projecting between the female heads, with upright ears and circular phalerae, the base of the handle with a molded female head, with an oval face, her hair arranged in a melon coiffure
