A 20-BORE SILVER-MOUNTED BRASS FLINTLOCK HOLSTER PISTOL
BY MORTIMER, LONDON, BIRMINGHAM SILVER HALLMARKS FOR 1780
With two-stage swamped barrel signed and engraved with foliage and a band of beadwork on the octagonal breech section, engraved iron tang, signed border engraved flat bevelled bolted lock decorated with flowers and foliage on the stepped tail and with roller, walnut full stock (fore-end cracked and repaired), engraved silver mounts including spurred pommel and trigger-guard with acorn finial (trigger-guard tang repaired), silver escutcheon, and later horn-tipped ramrod (iron parts lightly pitted, some wear to mounts), London and Tower proof marks, barrelsmith's mark of Harvey (1) Walklate Mortimer, silver maker's mark of Charles Freeth
