A FINE PAIR OF FRENCH 18-BORE SILVER-MOUNTED FLINTLOCK HOLSTER PISTOLS FOR THE NORTH AFRICAN MARKET

With two-stage tapering sighted barrels each with turned muzzle, girdle and breech, the forward section of each barrel decorated with a gilt sunburst surrounding the sight and a panel cut with gilt stars and a crescent moon against a finely stippled ground and bordered by gilt foliage, each breech section finely chiselled in relief with a crescent moon surmounting a large trophy of arms, gilt foliate engraved tangs, scroll engraved locks each signed 'BTE. DUMAREST A MARSEILLE' and with raised gold-lined pan with water drains, steel chiselled in low relief with a gilt crown and sunburst, and decorated in relief with a chiselled trophy of arms against a gilt ground on the tail and cock, walnut full stocks each inlaid with silver wire scrollwork and urns containing fruit and foliage, silver mounts cast and chased in relief with further trophies of arms against gilt grounds, the pommel-cap bearing a crown surrounded by five stars and the trigger-guard finial with a further crown, swelling silver ramrod-pipes, and original bone-tipped ramrods
