THE FIRST COLT, LONDON, SERIAL NO. 19229 FOR CIRCA 1855, THE SECOND COLT, NEW-YORK, SERIAL NO. 18224 FOR CIRCA 18??
The first with sighted octagonal barrel with one line 'ADDRESS. COL. COLT. LONDON' and struck with a War Dept. mark, 'WD' beneath a broad arrow, cylinder with traces of naval engagement scene, frame with 'COLT'S PATENT' stamp, iron grip-strap and trigger-guard, one-piece walnut grips drilled through for a lanyard, the left grip with worn 'WD' mark, and matching numbers throughout (discoloured, some patches of pitting, minor chips to grips), London proof marks; the second a factory conversion from percussion, with sighted octagonal barrel with one line 'ADDRESS COL. SAML. COLT NEW-ORK U.S.A.', rebated cylinder with stage coach scene, frame stamped with 1871 and 1872 patent dates, case-hardened hammer with blued firing-pin extension, brass grip-strap and trigger-guard retaining much original slivered finish, one-piece walnut grips, and matching numbers throughout with the exception of the wedge and cylinder (some scattered pitting and discolouration to iron parts, mechanism at fault)
