In 1893 Pokhitonov moved to Belgium to be close to his beloved sister Anastasia and her family. Here he met and became friends with Auguste Collon, a Belgian engineer. Auguste had worked in Baku for several years where he had been heavily involved in the development of the Russian oil industry. Christie's has sold a number of works with similar provenance, including most recently Bateaux de pêche prenant la mer in June 2010 for £145,250.
