2000: An Exceptional Year
Unremarkable at its outset, the weather was slightly warmer and wetter than average in April and May. After flowering early, wet conditions prevailed almost until July. From the beginning of the second week in July, however, the long, dry, hot spell began that continued through harvest, concentrating the fruit. The drought conditions were alleviated by some rain in early September, and the grapes were picked very ripe and in perfect health with high alcohol and low acidity levels between the 14th and 28th of September. The results are the lush and velvety clarets that we have come to know from this spectacular millennial vintage with their particularly graceful and elegant balance . These are wines that drink well now, but will also age gracefully for the benefit of future generations. I am certain our grandchildren will enjoy them very much!
