Saint Emilion. The second wine of Château Cheval Blanc
All lots in original wooden cases
At Cheval Blanc, the vinestock is very mature, with an average age of 40 years, and these parcels provide the grapes for the grand vin. As the vineyard is replanted, the younger vines together with those planted on the sandy gravel soils are used to produce the second wine, Petit Cheval. This vine material and these soil types give a wine that is similar to Cheval Blanc in style, but in a more approachable, fruit-driven style. 2000 was a superlative year in Bordeaux, with higher than average temperatures and dry conditions throughout the summer. In spite of this, only the very best was used for the grand vin, and 45 was blended into Petit Cheval. These grapes were approximately half Merlot and half Cabernet Franc.
