Lot Essay

Blampied's importance in recording the details of everyday life on Jersey during the Occupation by the Germans, is demonstrated in the group of lots on these pages (lots 130-132), which recount the hardships endured by the inhabitants of the island during the war. Listening to the wireless was banned by the Nazis, nevertheless the brave people depicted here, and many others like them continued to risk being caught in order to follow the progress of the Allied Forces.
