Château Mouton Rothschild--Vintage 1988
Pauillac, 1er cru classé
Tasting note: At 10 years of age, drinking surprisingly well. Though still youthful looking, a rich toasty nose and delicious flavour. Most recently: fairly deep, plummy coloured; sweet, rather rustic nose, good extract and fruit. An hour after decanting, a whiff of charred tar and mocha, opening up better later that evening. Touch of sweetness, perfect weight (12.5 alcohol), full of fruit, good length and sustaining tannin and acidity. Last tasted April 2006 ***(**) Could do with more time, say 2010-2020 M.B.
