Cf. Felix, M., White Gold, Black Hands, Ivory Sculpture in Congo, Vol.2, 2011, p.264, ill.156 pour un ivoire conservé au Musée Royal d'Afrique Centrale, Tervuren (inv.EO.0.036566).
Dans ses Notes ethnographiques (1922), Torday fit ces remarques à propos des ikhoko: "Chez les Bapendé le principal fétiche est le petit masque buya, également nommé dikoko, qui est porté autour du cou. [...] Le masque buya se porte comme charme pour prévenir ou guérir les maladies et il peut être acquis par les mâles adultes chez le bembo ou homme-fétiche."
