After the Museum at Versailles was inaugurated in 1837 and King Louis-Philippe was married, Lami's subject matter focussed on the court of Louis-Philippe and bourgeois society; mostly working in watercolour, he executed works such as Races at Chantilly (1835). After Louis-Philippe's fall in 1848 Lami followed him to England where he produced a number of watercolours depicting English society, such as Costume Ball at Buckingham Palace (1851 Royal Collection). He returned to France in 1852.
