Lot Essay

Reporting on the 1884 exhibition, the Spectator's critic wrote that 'Mr. Goodwin has nearly everything which Mr. [George Arthur] Fripp lacks.- daring, originality, imagination, poetry, and keenest sense of beauty of colour' (Spectator, London, 10 May 1884, p. 615).
