The beaded and stiff-leaf-carved padded back, arms, squab cushion and seat covered in crimson and ivory silk, the arm supports carved with guilloche and acanthus, on circular tapering fluted legs headed by paterae and terminating in toupie feet, stamped 'G. IACOB'

Georges Jacob, maître in 1765.

A virtually identical pair of marquises by Jacob was sold at Ader, Picard, Tajan, Paris, 15 June 1979, lot 71, while a further closely related marquise by Henri Jacob (maître in 1779), first cousin of Georges, was sold Christie's, Monaco, 5 December 1992, lot 118.
