The present bronze is a reduced version of Giambologna's marble group of the subject, carved in 1594-9, and now in the Loggia de' Lanzi in Florence. An extremely fine bronze version can be seen in the Kunsthistorisches Museum in Vienna (op. cit., no. 81).
