Compare a larger figure (66 cm. high) seated in lalitasana and holding in front a standing child, from the Chang Foundation, illustrated in Buddhist Images in Gilt Metal, Taibei, 1993, no. 40; where the author relates that according to Buddhist text, iconographic images of this type were worshipped for the fulfillment of virtuous sons and beautiful daughters.
See a figure from 16th/17th century with the same iconography sold in our Hong Kong Rooms, 29 April 2002, lot 1741
