Theodore Roussel executed several sets of small bust-length portraits after works by his master Van Dyck. The portraits in the present lot derive from prototypes by Van Dyck and his studio sold at Christie's, London, 24 April 2009, lot 30 and Christie's, New York, 24 January 2003, lot 141.
