Lot Essay

Spencer visited China in the late summer of 1954, together with A.J. Ayer, Rex Warner, Sir Hugh Casson and others, as part of a small delegation representing the British Arts and Sciences. The current lot was one of three drawings by Spencer used to illustrate an article about their China trip in the Sunday Times, printed on October 6, 1954.
