A Dutch walnut and burr-walnut longcase clock
Johan Hendrik Wiedeking, Utrecht. Second half 18th Century
The case of typical form, the hood surmounted by giltwood figural finials, the trunk door with gilt brass lenticle mount depicting the Rape of Europa, the case with canted angles, on bun feet. The brass dial with cast C-scroll spandrels, silvered chapter ring, foliate engraved centre with silvered subsidiary seconds ring signed Joh. Henr. Wiedeking Utrecht, two winding holes, sectors for month and day of week with their zodiac symbols, painted rolling moonphase to the engraved arch, four pillar movement, anchor escapement, Dutch strike on two bells; two brass weights, pendulum, doorkey and crank key
