A Liege quarter striking walnut, stained field maple, ebony, elm and fruitwood marquetry longcase clock with alarm
Second quarter 18th century
Overall inlaid with bands and marquetry, the case of typical form, the moulded arched hood with glazed soundfrets, surmounted by giltwood urn-shaped finials, above an arched trunk door with carved giltwood and glazed lenticle, the case with canted angles with carved giltwood capitals to the corners. The arched brass dial with painted moonphase, foliate bird and urn spandrels to the corners, the pewter chaptering surrounding an engraved centre with scrolling foliage, figures and lions, with subsidiary second ring, alarm setting disc and date apenture above VI, pierced steel hands, the four pillar triple barrel movement with separate going train -probably month going-, anchor escapement, hour, half hour and quarter strike on four bells; pendulum and three large brass weights
