Lot Essay

These carved figures depicting winemakers were very popular as welcome beakers in the wine-growing districts of South Germany, Alsace and Switzerland in the Renaissance and Baroque period. A comperable Büttenmann can be found in the Historische Museum, Basel (inv. no. 1920.10).
