Decorated profusely with vignettes of Classical figures, interspersed with masks and fruit, around a raised central boss inscribed First Surrey Rifle Volunteer Corps, the Irvine Challenge Trophy subscribed for by the members of the corps as a memorial of long efficient services conscientiously rendered to the regiment by Maj. Alexander Lodwick Irvine during the past 14 years, 7th May, 1873
