Lot Essay

Isabella Harriet Wingfield married John Malcolm, 14th Baron of Poltalloch in 1932. Malcolm (1805-1893) was an art collector and land owner, whose large collection of drawings was acquired after his death by the British Museum. Amongst the collection were a number of paintings by Canaletto which may have been the inspiration for this particular work.
