Lot Essay

Charles Townshend (1700-64), later Lord Lynn, married Audrey Harrison in 1723, whose father was made Governor of Fort St-George in 1711 and had four export services. Charles became 3rd Viscount in 1738; altogether he and Audrey ordered six sets of Chinese porcelain dishes with these distinctive arms. See D S Howard, op cit, vol I, pp 169, 204 and 220.
