Hervouët & Bruneau illustrate in color another plate from this beautifully enameled set, from the Canova collection, Lisbon (op cit, p 343). Porcelain made at the Meissen factory in Germany in the 1720s and 1730s often displayed maritime subjects as well as Chinoiserie elements. These porcelains, in turn, were sometimes sent to China to be copied, as Chinese porcelain was actually less expensive in this period.
