The earliest known example of Chinese porcelain ordered with a historical/political subject (see Hervouët & Bruneau, op cit p 204). The plate depicts the demolition of the house belonging to the Chief Baillif of Rotterdam, Jacob Zuylen van Myevelt, on 4 October 1690, during riots sparked by the brutal execution of Cornelis Kosterman, a young guard at the City Hall, whom the townspeople believed innocent.
