Lot Essay

Danish political life has been headquartered on this site from the 15th century to the present day. A series of castles predated this 18th century palace, the seat of the Danish Kings until 1794, and then from 1849 the home of the Danish Parliament. Hervouët & Bruneau (op cit, p 247) illustrate a snuffbox with this view, initialed and dated 1763, and cite a similar plate in the David Collection, Copenhagen.
