Painted in bright colors on each side with Graabroedretorv (Gray Monks Square) in Copenhagen, small figures strolling or selling their wares in the foreground, on the sides and in the center clusters of spring flowers

Lot Essay

This charming and apparently unique bowl depicts the square in Copenhagen that is centered by a monument to the notorious Count Johan Struensee, doctor to the mentally ill King Christian VII, lover of Queen Caroline-Mathilde, and de facto ruler of Denmark until he overstepped his bounds and was executed in 1772.
