Kroes (op cit, pp 224-5) notes of this beautiful set of plates and dishes that "Most of the examples are in Dutch museums". Though attributed to the Ver Huell family by Lunsingh Scheurleer and others, Kroes cites armorial inconsistencies and believes the arms could be of Jan Abraham Brul, with the VOC in the Indies 1739-50. Interestingly, the same array of banners, spears and cannons was used on the service of the Spanish d'Ensenada family.
A dinner plate from the service was sold Christie's, New York, 21 January 1999, lot 20.
