Lot Essay

Kroes (op cit, pp 290-292) illustrates a plate from this service and discusses the attribution of the arms; he also shows a plate painted with Dutch ships anchored in Table Mountain Bay, the same accollée arms at the rim. Whichever Dutch family ordered these porcelains, clearly they had some connection to the colony at Capetown.
