CIRCA 1795
Each piece enameled with a dragon crest probably for the Tappenden family of Kent within gilt, blue and iron-red borders, most pieces octagonal, comprising:
A soup tureen, cover and two stands
A sauce tureen, cover and stand
Two lozenge shaped liners
Seven platters in four sizes
Twelve dinner plates
Twelve soup plates
Twelve side plates
Two Worcester porcelain replacement vegetable dish covers
15¾ in. (40 cm.) wide, the largest platters (54)

Lot Essay

Howard reports that though this crest is not recorded, pioneer collector Sir Algernon Tudor-Craig purchased the entire service about 1925, listing it as Tappenden (op cit, vol. I, p. 769).
