Lot Essay

The De Pintos were a Jewish family originally from Portugal and Spain; they first resided in Rotterdam and then Amsterdam before establishing themselves in a magnificent palace in The Hague in the second half of the 17th century. For further discussions on the family, see Dr. J. Kroes, Chinese Armorial Porcelain for the Dutch Market, The Hague, 2007, p. 107, no. 4 and M.A. Pinto de Matos, The RA Collection of Chinese Ceramics, vol. III, London, 2011, pp. 14-15, no. 407.
