Lot Essay

Close to the head of one of Psyche's companions in Psyche showing her treasures to her sisters, one of the spandrels of the Salon ovale of the Hotel de Soubise in Paris, now part of the Archives nationales. This decoration, one of Natoire's great masterpieces, was carried over between 1737 and 1739.
We thank Susanna Caviglia for her kind assistance in cataloguing this lot.
