We are grateful to Fred G. Meijer at the RKD in The Hague for confirming the attribution to David Cornelisz. de Heem, on the basis of photographs. The painting probably dates from the period when David was sharing a studio with his father, Cornelis de Heem, in The Hague, c. 1676-1690 (private communication, 12 October 2011).
