Sir Peter Scott (1909-1989) was a naturalist, conservationist, artist and author. His body of artistic work is inextricably linked with his passion for wildlife. The artist travelled the world in order to paint rare species of birds and founded several bird sanctuaries in the UK. He was a founder of the World Wildlife Fund, President of the Society of Wildlife Artists and President of the Nature in Art Trust. The artist gave the scientific name of Nessiteras rhombopteryx to the Loch Ness Monster so that it could be registered as an endangered species. Family tradition reveals that Scott painted Lot 26 for David Pelham Guthrie-James, a believer in the Loch Ness monster legend.
