Lot Essay

This drawing appears to be from Cox's first series of drawings of Haddon Hall, the Tudor seat of the Dukes of Rutland. This series was executed in the 1830s and the pictures were typically peopled by figures in period costume, whereas the second, 1845, series focused on the building itself.
