The superstructure with geometric-cut three-quarter gallery above an open compartment and drawer flanked by cupboards inlaid with flowering vases, the sides with marquetry bouquets, the top with a pull-out leather-covered writing-slide above an entrelac-mounted frieze drawer, on cabriole legs headed by clasps and joined by a galleried tier, the lockplate engraved 'Lexcellent fabt Paris'

Lot Essay

E.-Guillaume-Edmond Lexcellent (b. 1834) first opened a shop at 46, rue de Charenton in 1867. He relocated to 8, rue Breguet where the firm continued in business until 1928. He exhibited 'des meubles de luxe de divers styles' at the 1855, 1867 and 1889 Expositions Universelles, where he was awarded a médaille de bronze as well as a médaille d'argent.
