The design of this gueridon is inspired by a work table with cassolette by Jacob Frères, which derived from the famous Pompeian tripod in the Naples Archeological Museum and published by C. Percier and P.F.L. Fontaine in Receuil des Décorations Intérieurs, 1812, pl. 28.
A very similar example which formerly stood in the bedchamber of the Comte d'Artois at the Tuileries is now in the Chambre de l'Imperatrice Josephine at the château de la Malmaison. Further related examples include an anthenienne in the Musée Nissim de Camondo, Paris and another in the Musée des Arts Décoratifs de Lyon.
