The rectangular top with distressed inset brown leather writing surface above three frieze drawers flanked by ormolu helmets on shaped end supports and carved paw feet joined by a stretcher

Lot Essay

A virtually identical bureau by Schmit & Cie was sold at Christie's, London, 26 January 2006, lot 197 (£26,400 with premium).
The celebrated rue de Charonne firm of Frederic Schmit, founded in 1856, became known as Schmit & Cie around the time that they exhibited at the Paris 1889 Exhibition. An album of the firm's designs was sold at Christie's, London, 26 February 1998, lot 405.
