CASE: the waisted shaped case with pierced foliate cresting above a glazed door to the dial, further glazed and curtained panel for the musical movement, the trunk door with glazed lenticle, above a remodelled plinth with ebonised bracket feet; case partially remounted and reveneered, with some further alterations, paper label applied to the reverse and inscribed in ink 'Robert von Hirsch' DIAL: replaced 12¾ in. white enamel chapter disc inscribed 'FAUCILLON A AUXERRE', replaced pierced and engraved brass hands, blued steel sweep seconds, with subsidiary enamel dials below for age of moon with penny moonphase (possibly replaced), day of week with zodiacal symbol, year calendar calibrated from 1772 to 1871 and date/month with number of days, all with blued steel arrow hands MOVEMENT: two-train, weight-driven movement with four pillars joining rectangular plates, inside pinwheel escapement and outside countwheel strike on bell, gear to calendar work positioned to the reverse of the dial, with hourly trip to music work, this with chain fusee wound through the side of the case automatically playing twelve tunes via 10½ inch long pinned barrel, with twenty one numbered hammers on eleven bells; the movement 19th century, with alterations; two brass weights, two brass counter-weights and a two-section steel rod pendulum with brass bob, this suspended from the backboard
