Lot Essay

The painting appears to be a version of A cow and sheep in a watermeadow (O.1851.22, K. Westwood, Thomas Sidney Cooper C.V.O., R.A. His Life and work,David Leathers Publishing, p.258) and it is possibly one of a number of works painted for Joseph Gillott (op.cit. Vol.2, p.433 and p.458).
