A RARE AND UNUSUAL SMALL IMPERIAL BRONZE SCROLL-FORM WATER POT
17TH/18TH CENTURY
Finely cast in the shape of a partially unrolled scroll, the edge turned back to show the four-character title strip reading, yutang qingwan (Pure Treasure of the Jade Hall or Pure Treasure of Yutang), and draped with a braided cord with clip that continues onto the underside, a large leaf laid on the hollow scroll surrounding the irregular opening

Lot Essay

A very similar water pot in the Qing court collection (Fig. 1) is illustrated in The Complete Collection of Treasures of the Palace Museum - Small Refined Articles of the Study, Shanghai, 2009, pp. 6-7, where it is shown, p. 6, to have been one of the small articles stored in a fitted box for writing materials.
