Lot Essay

This boldly executed sculpture is likely from the region of Himachal Pradesh, following a Kashmiri prototype; for a stylistically closely related example in the Nelson Atkins Museum, Kansas City, variously attributed to Kashmir and Western Himalaya, see U. von Schroeder, Indo-Tibetan Bronzes, 1981, fig. 29B, p. 154.
