CIRCA 1830-1835, ATTRIBUTED TO MOREL AND SEDDON

This spectacular breakfast table conceived in rich amboyna offset with giltwood is comparable to several items of furniture supplied to George IV at Windsor castle by Morell and Seddon in 1828. Some of the furniture supplied in the more neo-classical style inspired by George Jacob was executed in amboyna and giltwood. The soft giltwood moulding that can be seen to the underside of the top of the present lot is comparable to the moulding used to trim the plinth base of a dressing table at Windsor castle in room 243 H. Roberts For the King's Pleasure, London 2001, p. 363, fig 450. The same moulding can be seen on another dressing table in maplewood, op cit. p. 385, fig 462 and a figured mahogany wardrobe op cit. p. 400, fig 478. The hollow acanthus carved giltwood feet concealing the castors are an unusual and elegant feature on this table, Morel and Seddon used this feature on several items of furniture at Windsor castle such as a maplewood and purplewood writing table op cit. p. 311, fig 374 and a giltwood sofa op cit. p. 363, fig 452.
