A Dutch burr-walnut and fruitwood inlaid longcase clock
M.W. Scholtz, Amsterdam, third quarter 18TH century
The case of typical form, the arched hood surmounted by giltwood figural finials, the door lenticle cast with mount depicting father time. The arched brass dial with moonphase and mock pendulum of an angel, with palmette spandrels, the silvered chapter ring signed MLWM. Scholtz Amsterdam, the matted center with subsidiary seconds ring and date aperture below XII, alarm setting disc, large aperture above VI with a painted rocking ship. Four pillar brass movement with anchor escapement and Dutch strike; with two large and two small brass weights, door key, winding key and pendulum
